The Honduran Football Federation has confirmed that Colombian national team coach Rueda will no longer be in charge. This decision comes after the team's elimination from the CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Statement Content
We hereby formally announce that the professional relationships of the current coaching staff have ended following the conclusion of the final match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. We have an obligation to conduct a thorough and objective review of the competitive and technical performance of this qualifying process. In this sense, we have decided to immediately initiate an internal technical and structural evaluation process regarding this qualifying process, based on sports reports, planning analysis, and the overall operation of the selection program. Honduran football should not give up because of this; instead, it should take responsibility, face the current situation with a strong sense of national identity, view this difficult period as an opportunity for growth, and join the project together without making excuses.
(End of announcement)
Previously, Rueda broke down in tears at a press conference after Honduras was confirmed to be out of contention for the World Cup.
