Liverpool have completed the signing of Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City on a reported £13.5m deal.

Stoke City were relegated from the Premier League last season and the club decided to make Shaqiri available in the transfer market.

Clubs from European top leagues such as Liverpool and Lazio have shown interest on the 26-year-old winger, and it is the Merseyside outfit who has secured his service.

He is a FC Basel youth product, having later played 130 times for the Swiss giants, before moving to Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

In the summer of 2015, Stoke have shocked English football by signing the promising star, but he flattered to deceive as the club are relegated to Championship just three years later.

Switzerland have a fine World Cup run-in as they have advanced to the knockout stage from a group filled with Brazil, Serbia and Costa Rica.

Shaqiri scored a last-minute winner against Serbia in the second group fixture and infamously showed off the 'eagle' gestures, referring to the Albanian flag and the state of Kosovo, which is not officially recognized by Serbia.
