OFFICIAL: PSG have signed French defender Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich until 2028 on a €47m fee.

The versatile Frenchman - the older brother of AC Milan's Theo Hernandez - has penned a five-year contract in Paris, with PSG set to pay an initial sum of €40m (£34.2m) plus add-ons.

The 27-year-old had one year left on his deal with Bayern, but a good relationship between both clubs allowed the deal to progress, even if that fee was below the Bundesliga side's initial expectations.

Hernandez told PSG's official website: 'I’m really excited! I’ve been waiting to join PSG for a long time, and it’s finally happened. It’s a very special day for me and I’m very happy to be here.'

Hernandez was born in France but raised in Spain, playing his youth career at Rayo Majadahonda and Atletico Madrid before progressing into the latter's senior team.

In 2019, he joined Bayern Munich, and has enjoyed four years of success with the German giants, winning the Bundesliga title every season, as well as the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020.

However, injury has limited his involvement for Bayern Munich this season. The defender was restricted to 11 appearances because of a knee ligament injury suffered while on France duty at the World Cup.

Bayern are also closing in on a deal to get Kim Min-Jae from Napoli, which would have limited the defender's involvement in the coming campaign too.

Hernandez's confirmation at PSG may not go down well with the club's ultras, who previously insisted he was 'not welcome' at the club because of his links to their fierce rivals Marseille.

The defender was born in the city, his father Jean-Francois played for Olympique Marseille during the 1990s, and Hernandez was accused of bringing this up after Bayern Munich beat PSG to lift the Champions League trophy three years ago.

PSG's arrivals during the transfer window are Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, Manuel Ugarte and Kang-in Lee.

There is also a change in manager, with Luis Enrique replacing Christophe Galtier as head coach.

Paris Saint-Germain welcome another World Champion into its squad. A French international since March 2018, Lucas Hernández played a key role in Didier Deschamps' side's incredible run in the World Cup in Russia a few months later. The left-footed defender started every match at the World Cup, and provided two assists. The first one in the Round of 16 win over Argentina (4-3) and another one in the final against Croatia (4-2).

The 27-year-old, who is the older brother of Theo Hernandez, has now made 33 appearances for Les Bleus, and added a victory in the 2021 UEFA Nations League to his list of international honours. After suffering a serious injury against Australia in France's opening match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, Lucas Hernández has not pulled on the blue jersey since.

His solid record at international level echoes the many titles that he has won during his various experiences at club level. In 2018, he won the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup with Atlético Madrid, the club with which he made his professional debut in 2014.

A versatile player who can play at either left-back or centre-back, Lucas Hernández eventually joined Bayern Munich in 2019, where he quickly established himself as a key player.

By 2020, he had won no fewer than six trophies with the Bavarian club: the Champions League, the Bundesliga, another UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the German Cup and the German Super Cup. Lucas Hernández was crowned German champion again in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and won the German Super Cup in 2022.
