Mateo Kovacic has completed a permanent transfer from Real Madrid to Chelsea.
The 25-year-old Croat spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge and has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
Kovacic made 51 appearances for Chelsea last season, 36 of them starts, playing primarily on the left of midfield in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 formation where he was an important supplier of passes to top goalscorer Eden Hazard.
The 25-year-old contributed significantly to our Europa League-winning campaign, starting in 10 of the 15 games, including the final in Baku, and making two further substitute appearances. He was a standout performer against Arsenal in Azerbaijan and was involved in three of the goals in our 4-1 win.
Prior to his signing for Real Madrid four years ago, Kovacic was at Inter Milan in Italy and before that, Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, for whom he has won 52 caps.

That is really nice, kovacic is a great player and has made quite an impression in Chelsea, I think it is a right decision of Chelsea signing after they have lost their best players, he will do well and maybe guaranteed more playing time, good luck kovacic

Real Madrid's transfer policy is good they are selling llorente for 40 m and kovacic for 50 while barca sold gomes for 25 and they are selling suarez for 15

Kovacic needs to forge his place at Chelsea as their integral player.Chelsea has lost a titan to Real Madrid but they've still got amazing players like Kovacic, Pulisic, Loftus Cheek etc who can guide the club to success.

it's because of our philosophical play technique. our most player plays holding ball football which is being played by few clubs in world football. while physical and run based football is dominant in world so if player came from such background they are likely to get offer from many clubs so their value increases. while on our only few club gets interested and for that no one willing to pay high fee though they got talent.

Real Madrid be selling their players expensive while Barcelona be selling cheaply trust me if Barça sells rakitic they might sell him cheaper than 50 while kovacic doesn't even see game time at Croatia and was sold for 50mil

Good squad option. Wont get stats but a good deep lying option. I think depending on the manager, he can become a good player. I think the fee may be too high considering he may not fit into the squad ahead of the best 3 RLC, Kante and Jorginho but he is defo a good squad option.

Some comments here are from kids and for the kids which is fine as they are having fun. The truth is that although Kovacic is not a great player but he will be a great asset to the squad and the coach. With different players around him and a different style of play this player has many things to offer and at 25 he is still young and will improve more than we saw of him last season. We have a player who is willing to run and defend and who in my belief will start scoring goals or be one of the main sources of assists next season. He showed how he improved towards the end of the season so was Jorginho and both are the reasons we ended where we are and winning in Europe after the injury of our promising young players. Just keep them in the club and both will inspire the youngsters on the way to greatness next season.
