On July 6, Bayern Munich officially announced the injury update of Jamal Musiala.

The German midfielder has suffered a fibula fracture and ankle dislocation, will undergo surgery, and is set for a long-term absence.

According to Bayern’s statement, Musiala flew back to Munich from Orlando this morning local time and will undergo surgery in the coming days.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said:

“Musiala’s serious injury and long absence is a huge blow for the club and for all of us. This is a very heavy blow to Bayern. Everyone knows how important he is to our game and the crucial role he plays in this team. On top of that, the personal impact of such an injury is heartbreaking; we all feel for him. Jamal had just come back from injury, and now he is set to be sidelined for a long time again. We will give him all the support he needs. We will stand by him, and we can’t wait to see him back on the pitch.”

Musiala picked up the injury during first-half stoppage time in Bayern’s FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain earlier today. He went down in pain following a challenge and could not continue.
