On July 3 (CEST), the German Football Association (DFB) officially announced that Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as head coach of the German national team. The DFB will now formally approach Jürgen Klopp regarding the position.
Official DFB Announcement:
The DFB announced that the shareholder representatives and the supervisory board of DFB GmbH & Co. KG unanimously decided today, following the recommendation of DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, to terminate Julian Nagelsmann's contract as head coach of the German national team with immediate effect.
The day before, Nagelsmann had expressed his desire to step down following Germany's elimination from the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico during a confidential meeting with senior DFB officials. The DFB has now officially accepted his request.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf stated: "The DFB sincerely thanks Nagelsmann for his outstanding work since September 2023. He has consistently demonstrated tremendous commitment and dedication. He is also a highly principled, sincere, and honorable person, and we hold him in the highest respect."
Nagelsmann said in a statement: "Since the team's exit, I have reflected deeply and held extensive discussions with those close to me and with the DFB. This decision was not easy. My goal has always been the team's success. After such a significant defeat, this team deserves a fresh start without the weight of the past. I want to thank my coaching staff, the players, and everyone at the DFB who supported us. I am especially grateful to the fans for your unwavering support and trust, which gave us strength even in the most difficult moments. I am deeply sorry that I could not deliver more memorable World Cup moments and that I fell short of your expectations. You deserved better."
Rudi Völler, Sporting Director of the German national team, stated: "The World Cup exit disappointed us all, and we respect Nagelsmann's decision to take responsibility. He put the interests of the German national team above his own, despite his desire to continue leading the team toward his goals. We all hoped for better results and performances at the World Cup. Nagelsmann is an excellent coach, and I am confident he will continue to achieve success. I sincerely thank him for the trust and collaboration he has consistently shown."
The DFB also confirmed that Nagelsmann's assistant coaches, Benjamin Glück and Benjamin Hübner, will also depart, and expressed its gratitude for their contributions.
Regarding the appointment of a new head coach, the DFB stated that it will promptly initiate formal contact with Jürgen Klopp. According to the DFB, Klopp has previously indicated his willingness to take on the role of German national team head coach.
Additionally, DFB Sports Managing Director Andreas Rettig announced that day that he would not renew his contract, which expires at the end of the year, for personal reasons. He had informed DFB President Neuendorf of this decision before the start of the World Cup.

Jürgen Klopp, the only one who can restore Germany to greatness.
He can’t necessarily do any better, he didn’t do brilliantly at Liverpool. He can only work with the players he has from Germany, at Liverpool he purchased numerous players of different nationalities. It’s a different ball game.

Actually it depends on the opponent ranking. Germany lost to Paraguay in round 32. Not the host nation. Winning 7-1 against Curaçao. 2-1 against Ivory Coast and lost as well against Ecuador. 2 win and 2 lost enough to make him resigns.

The Winning addiction and virus will finish most of the couches in the heavyweights in round 16,8 and 4 respectively, the penalty is a jack pot mostly in favor of the underdogs.

We pressured him to resign, made contact with his replacement and then release statements like we don’t know that he will get the sack if he doesn’t resign! They stabbed you and tell you to smile for the camera! Sorry Nagelsmann that’s just the kind of world we made for ourselves!

Klopp is coming, that's why we're happy. But it's wasn't Nagelsmann's fault that Germany lost against Paraguay, indeed it was Referee's fault (wrong decision)..!

It seems like every manager of a big country is either sacked or leaves amicably. It’s worse than the EPL. Managers can get rich quick the way football is going at present.
