Dates for 2026/27 Premier League season confirmed

The Premier League has officially announced that the 2026/27 season will start on August 22, 2026, and conclude on May 30, 2027. This is set to be the latest start date in Premier League history.

The schedule for the 2026/27 Premier League season has been finalized. The opening match will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

The final round of the season will kick off simultaneously on Sunday, May 30, 2027, as per tradition.

With global football schedules becoming increasingly congested, player welfare remains a key priority for the Premier League. To address this, the new season will start one week later, granting players an 89-day full rest period between the end of the current season and the start of the new one, plus 33 days of recovery time after the 2026 World Cup final.

The season finale will be held one week before the 2027 Champions League final (scheduled for June 5, 2027).

The 2026/27 season will feature 33 weekend matchdays and 5 midweek rounds. The Premier League schedule will seek to avoid conflicts with UEFA club competition fixtures.

During the Christmas and New Year fixture period, the league has pledged to ensure a minimum 60-hour gap between matches, to mitigate the challenges of a congested festive schedule amid expanded international fixtures.
