OFFICIAL: RB Leipzig signs Ole Werner as new head coach

RB Leipzig has a new head coach: Ole Werner (37) is moving from SV Werder Bremen to the Red Bulls and has signed a contract until 2027. 

The Preetz native was in charge of the North German Bundesliga club in 128 competitive matches from November 2021 to May 2025 and finished the 2024/2025 season in eighth place, level on points with RB Leipzig.

" Ole is a young, up-and-coming, and extremely ambitious head coach who will take the next step in his development with us. We have been following his path closely for some time and are delighted that he has chosen RB Leipzig. Ole represents a clear playing philosophy that he successfully implemented during his stints in Kiel and Bremen: structured possession-based football, quick transitions after winning the ball, excellent pressing, tactical flexibility, and a courageous, committed, and combative demeanor. 

Especially at his last stint in Bremen, Ole continuously developed both the team and himself. We are convinced that he is ready for the next level and are delighted to now continue to advance squad planning with him. Together, we will work hard from the first day of preseason to get RB Leipzig back on the road to success. "

Stations in Kiel and Bremen

Before joining Bremen, Ole Werner held several coaching positions at Holstein Kiel since July 2013 and was appointed head coach in September 2019 at the age of just 31. He was on the sidelines in 78 competitive matches with the Storks until September 2021, narrowly missing promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2021 relegation play-offs. In 2022, he celebrated the return to the Bundesliga with SV Werder Bremen, who had been relegated the previous year , and stabilized the club over the last three seasons, finishing 13th, 9th, and 8th in the table. 

Ole Werner will be officially introduced at a press conference shortly. His assistants Patrick Kohlmann and Tom Cichon complete the coaching team.
