OFFICIAL: Sergio Busquets joins Barça Atlètic as assistant coach

The Blaugrana legend joins Juliano Belletti’s coaching staff, bringing his decorated career and experience as he completes his coaching qualifications

Sergio Busquets has joined Barça Atlètic as an assistant coach starting this Monday. The Blaugrana legend will be part of Juliano Belletti’s coaching staff, bringing his football experience and know-how to the Blaugrana side while he completes his coaching certification course.

In this way, Busquets returns to the Club three years after bringing an end to his spell as a first-team player. After 15 seasons wearing the Barça shirt, the man from Badia del Vallès continued his career at Inter Miami, where he played for two and a half seasons before announcing his retirement from the pitch.

The return of a legend

Sergio Busquets' journey at Barça holds a privileged place in the Club' s history. A product of La Masia, the midfielder joined the first team in the 2008/09 season and, since then, became a fundamental part of one of the most successful eras in the history of the Blaugrana.

Elegance, intelligence and an extraordinary ability to read the game defined Busquets' style of play, as he is regarded as one of the greatest defensive midfielders in history. His tactical awareness, pinpoint passing and ability to give structure to play from his position made him a truly unique figure in world football.

Having made 722 appearances in a Barça jersey, Busquets is the third-most capped player in the Club’s history. His trophy haul is also a testament to his greatness: 32 titles, including 9 La Liga titles, 7 Copa del Rey, 7 Spanish Super Cups, 3 UEFA Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Super Cups and 3 FIFA Club World Cups.

In addition, with the Spanish national team, he won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship, and was part of a generation that left an indelible mark on international football.

Now, after having experienced elite football from the inside for almost two decades, Busquets embarks on a new chapter at the club of his life. His experience, his knowledge and his way of understanding the game will become part of Juliano Belletti's coaching staff, with the aim of contributing to the development and training of the young players of the Blaugrana reserve team.
