Mainz 05 have confirmed the signing of defender Stefan Posch on loan from Como until the conclusion of the current season.
Club Statement:
1. FSV Mainz 05 have signed Stefan Posch on loan from Serie A side Como 1907 until the end of the season. The 1.90m-tall defender makes his return to the Bundesliga after three-and-a-half years playing in Italy’s top flight and will wear the number 4 shirt at Mainz.
Posch is an experienced player, having already been capped 49 times by Austria, as well as making 126 competitive appearances for TSG Hoffenheim, alongside 94 further games in the Serie A for Bologna, Atalanta and Como. He was also part of the Austria squad that successfully qualified for this year’s World Cup, alongside his new Mainz teammate Phillipp Mwene.
"...exactly the type of defensive reinforcement we need right now heading into the second half of the season."
“Stefan Posch is an experienced centre-half, who is strong in challenges and has a lot of quality. He can be used as a central defender or as a full-back. He has already shown his ability, both in the Bundesliga and abroad in Italy and is exactly the type of defensive reinforcement we need right now heading into the second half of the season. We’re delighted to have him here, as he is fully committed to our goal of staying in the league,” said sporting director Niko Bungert.
“I’m really looking forward to the job here at Mainz and can’t wait to get out on the pitch with my new teammates. The top priority is, of course, to get out of the relegation zone as quickly as possible and give everything we can to stay in this league,” said Stefan Posch. “I’m sure that we can do just that and I’m looking forward to doing my bit to help.”
