OFFICIAL: Thiago joins Barcelona's coaching staff as Flick's assistant coach

Former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara returns to the club and joins Flick's coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Thiago has his first official working day as a member of the technical team. This Thursday, the player who once played for Barcelona started assisting head coach Flick in his work on the training ground in the capacity of a first-team assistant coach. His responsibilities include participating in tactical design, preparing training sessions and other tasks, injecting new vitality into the team's daily training with his rich competition experience and unique tactical insights. 

Thiago announced his retirement in July 2024. He started his playing career in Barcelona's youth academy, made his first-team debut in 2009, and was officially promoted to the first team in 2011.

Thiago has played 100 games for Barcelona in total, contributing 11 goals and 20 assists. He won 1 UEFA Champions League title, 1 FIFA Club World Cup title, 1 UEFA Super Cup title, 4 La Liga titles, 2 Copa del Rey titles, and 3 Supercopa de España titles with the team.

After retiring, Thiago temporarily joined Barcelona's coaching staff in July 2024, followed the first team throughout the preparation, and then left in August. AS reported that Thiago left last year due to tax issues and had to return to the UK to live for a period of time at that time, otherwise he would not meet the tax requirements. Now Thiago's tax issues have been resolved.
