OFFICIAL: US forward Balogun's red card suspension deferred for one year

The suspension of US striker Balogun, resulting from a red card in the FIFA World Cup round of 16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be deferred for one year.

Official Announcement from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on US national team player Folarin Balogun, who received a direct red card during the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between the USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina, played on July 1, 2026, at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium:

A one-match suspension for violating articles 14 and 66 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

In accordance with Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the execution of this suspension is deferred for one year. Should Folarin Balogun commit a similar infringement in nature and severity during the probationary period, the decision to defer will be revoked, the sanction will be enforced, and this will not preclude any additional sanctions that may be imposed for the new infringement.
