Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer wear the number 97 at Olympique de Marseille. The club have confirmed that the 36-year-old Gabonese striker has switched to number 17 for the remainder of the season.
The choice became possible after Matt O’Riley’s move to Brighton & Hove Albion, freeing up the shirt that had drawn interest in recent weeks.
After wearing number 10 during his first campaign in Marseille and then 97, Aubameyang will now be associated with 17. With 10 goals and 9 assists in 28 appearances across competitions this season, the former Premier League and La Liga forward hopes the change brings extra luck as OM prepare to face RC Strasbourg Alsace this weekend.
