Atletico humiliated Real Madrid and amassed a five goal lead by half time.
Despite it being a pre-season match, Diego Simeone's team were excellent and have instilled an excitement in the new project.
On the other bench, Zinedine Zidane, with the same players of months ago, looked like just that... The same.
Everything worked for Atleti. Diego Costa, Joao Felix, Vitolo and Real were nowhere to be seen.
It looks like the Real Madrid revolution will take a lot longer than first thought.
Joao Felix is a brilliant player and within the first eight minutes of the game the 126 million euro transfer fee seemed a bargain. A great assist for Costa got the opener and scoring the second himself, he looked genius and could well be one of LaLiga's great signings. The Estadio Wanda Metropolitano will enjoy watching him.
After Diego Simeone proclaimed that Diego Costa is going to have a great season just a day before, the Spanish international responded in spectacular fashion with four goals. It was impossible for him to be more effective and if he maintains that level, then Atletico can reach the stars this season.
Zidane's face said everything from the first to the 90th minute. His side were dominated by Atletico and any doubts which he had last season were no doubt passing through his mind again. His team never started and look like continuing the free fall which started in the last few weeks of the LaLiga Santander campaign.
Thibaut Courtois' words before the match came back to haunt him. "It's clear who the No.1 goalkeeper is," he told the press. Well, that No.1 conceded five goals in the first half. Neither Iker Casillas nor Keylor Navas uttered such a phrase and they won six Champions Leagues between them. It wasn't surprising that the crowd started whistling him, even before a goal was conceded.
A complete match from Atletico. They played with ambition and quality when executing the attacking moves. Simeone seems able to further improve and has built a new exciting team in record time. The most important players were taken off and the team looked even better. Sometimes revolutions aren't always bad.
When Zidane took over the Real Madrid team again, he said, "We are going to change things." A phrase MARCA even put on the front page, but four months later there is nothing to report. The team are playing the same way, because the template is the same, and even more, the results are the same... Or worse.

its too early to judge based on preseason performance. it is true that they are not convincing in the 3 matches they played. main reason is that there is no casemiro in the team. he is the one who does the dirty work for the team and there is no single defensive midfielder in the team other than him. we shall see how shall it go in the season. many fans fans are not convinced about the team but hope they perform well

I still believe in Real Madrid. But I hope Zidane sees the reason he needs James Rodriguez. Isco & Modric can't do what he can. Kubo is still very young.

I can understand!! they have sense!! spend 300M and don't even prove it. what I can advise them is "REGRET TO SELL RONALDO". THAT'S!

Preseason tells you whether a team is really prepared or not. Still, a prepared team can drop form during regular season and also a unprepared can gain form and do better. Waiting to see what becomes of Real when La Liga starts in August. Sure the team won't be this terrible or else......Zidane gonna see the EXIT in bold & extra large letters.
