Olid succeeds Skinner as Man Utd head coach

Eva Olid has been named Manchester United's new head coach following the departure of Marc Skinner.

The Spaniard has signed a two-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

Olid was in charge of Hearts for five years, and that period culminated in her leading them to a historic first Scottish Premier League title in May.

She had already announced she would be leaving at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, under a mutual agreement with the club.

Olid also led Hearts to the Scottish Women's Cup final in 2024 – their first domestic showpiece match – though they lost 2-0 to Rangers.

"The opportunity to become head coach of Manchester United Women is a dream come true," she told the club's website.

"The club has outstanding infrastructure and everything we need to achieve our ambitions. We have an excellent training facility, an academy that is already producing players capable of performing in a competitive first team and an exceptional group of support staff.

"There is already so much talent within our squad, and I am excited to work with the players to support them to fulfil their immense potential.

"I am joining Manchester United at a really exciting time. There is a clear alignment in our shared vision for long-term success. I cannot wait to begin preparing a team that will make our incredible supporters proud."

Skinner left United on Monday after five years in charge, with reports suggesting he was not happy with the club's recruitment process.

United, who have only signed defender Andrea Medina and goalkeeper Janina Leitzig this transfer window, are said to be targeting younger players in the hope of building for the future.

"Olid's appointment marks the start of an exciting new era for Manchester United Women as the club embarks on a clear vision for long-term, sustainable growth and success," the club said in their statement, describing the 40-year-old as having "a reputation as a progressive and innovative leader."

"Important foundations have already been put in place to further support the development of homegrown talent and young players, as well as senior internationals, and establish a clear football identity.

"Significant investment has been made into the academy infrastructure and facilities, underlining the ambition to build the leading youth development system in the country."

Olid's first competitive game in charge will come against London City Lionesses on September 4 in the Women's Super League.
