Olise rejects big shoe deal to match cleats with jersey colors

According to 442, French international Olise has attracted attention for his choice of boots during this FIFA World Cup. The Bayern Munich winger, unlike most top players who sign boot sponsorship deals with sports brands, insists on wearing his familiar Nike Hypervenom Phantom 3, matching different colorways to the French team's jersey colors.

The report states that Olise has been wearing these boots since his time at Reading. Since Nike discontinued this series in 2018, he now has to find suitable boots through online resellers.

Boot expert Subommy Kushanu said: "Olise should now be the favorite player of all boot enthusiasts. He completely breaks the norm in professional football. He has been wearing Nike Hypervenom Phantom 3 since his time at Reading, and to this day has not signed with a brand like players of similar status, just so he can continue to wear these boots."

Typically, sports brands require their contracted players to wear the latest boots during major tournaments, as part of the sponsorship agreement. Players therefore often have to forgo some personal choices, regardless of whether the boot color matches the team's jersey.

But Olise clearly values his autonomy more. In this FIFA World Cup, he chose blue, white, or mint green Hypervenom boots based on different French team jerseys, instead of using the bright pink new combat boots common in this tournament.

The report points out that if Olise were willing to sign a boot sponsorship deal, given his current strength and popularity, he could earn at least about £2 million annually. For reference, his French teammate Mbappé's 10-year contract with Nike is reportedly worth about £1.4 million per year.
