L’Équipe have revealed that wanting to beat Edinson Cavani’s (36) Paris Saint-Germain scoring record was a motivating factor behind Kylian Mbappé’s (24) decision to remain at the club last summer.
Uruguayan forward Cavani, who currently plays for Valencia in La Liga, scored 200 goals in 301 games for Les Parisiens. Following a brace against rivals Olympique de Marseille, Mbappé drew level with his former teammate, reaching the milestone despite having 55 fewer games for the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
L’Équipe have now revealed that breaking Cavani’s record was a factor in Mbappé remaining at the club and extending his contract, rather than joining Real Madrid on a free transfer, as he was heavily tipped to do.
If Mbappé scores against FC Nantes, he will break the record, and an hommage has been planned by PSG. According to L’Équipe, Mbappé is “very attached” to breaking records that carry a symbolic value and “leaving a trace” at the club.

Knew it from the onset.. Mbappe wants to sit on the same table as Messi and Cr7.. And his next stop will be Real madrid to break Cr7 record or to PL to break Shearer record.. Bt, he might continue at PSG till messi is there.. a chance..
