Ozil's transfer to DC United 'hinges on unlikely business deal'

Mesut Ozil is set for talks over a move to DC United - but the move could hinge on an unlikely business deal.

According to The Athletic , the proposed switch might only materialise if he can strike a deal to open a coffee shop in the US capital.

The German playmaker owns a company called 39 Steps Coffee, with three branches in London, and he is believed to be keen to open a branch in the US, potentially at the DC United's Audi Field.

Whilst he will also need to agree terms over his high salary and make a big decision over his career prospects, the business deal could be an intriguing side-plot as his representatives prepare to hold talks with the MLS side.

DC United are believed to be set to talk to Arsenal chiefs regarding a move for Ozil next week.

The departure of Wayne Rooney has freed up space for a big-name addition at DC United.

Ozil looks set to fall further down the pecking order at Arsenal after they signed Spanish playmaker Dani Ceballos.

The German found himself in and out of Unai Emery's side last season, and they are keen to offload his £350,000-a-week wages to free up funds.

However, a deal could be difficult for the MLS side to make happen with two years still left on his current contract.

Mario Balotelli is also being considered by DC United to replace the outgoing Rooney, who will head to Derby in January to begin his play-coaching role.

Ozil has remained tight-lipped on his future at the Emirates, but a recent social media post captioned "New season loading" appeared to signal his commitment to the club in the short-term.
