PS6 goes on a hat-trick bender with Messi, Neymar and Mbappe on point

Ever since Real Madrid eliminated PSG in the Champions League, the three stars seemed to have found an impressive rhythm in the domestic competition. Granted, they no longer play against too many tough opponents and they will remain getting criticized for it. But that doesn't mean they can't enjoy themselves like they did today against Clermont. During the first five minutes, the game already didn't start well for Clermont as the referee decided to ignore an injured player inside their own box. Messi was slick with his assist to Neymar between the lines, the Brazilian ignored the hurt Clermont player in front of him and scored the opener with a crossed finish. About 13 minutes later, Messi set Mbape up for his goal with a brilliant assist over two defenders that left Kylian alone in front of goal. Four minutes before half time, Clermont scored at home but that didn't affect PSG in the slightest.

Everybody gets a hat-trick.

It's almost as if Oprah was watching PSG this evening, she decided to give everybody a hat-trick. Clermont held the same result until 20 minutes were left on the clock, which is when Mbappe got a penalty for PSG that turned the game upside down. Neymar scored an easy penalty from the spot. Three minutes later, Neymar wanted to get in on the assist action with a beautiful over-the-head pass for Mbappe's brace. With 10 minutes left, the trident combined beautifully for Messi to set up Kylian's hat-trick and his own assist hat-trick at the same time. It was already a goal-fest from PSG against Clermont. In the final minutes, Mbappe returned Neymar the favor and set him up for his wn hat-trick. This has to be the most prolific evening for PSG's big trio since Messi arrived last summer.

Can PSG still convince Mbappe to stay?

At this point, PSG can only count on evenings like this to convince Kylian Mbappe that staying at the club is his best option. Marca is still confident he has pretty much decided to play for Real Madrid next season but everybody needs to remain cautious. Especially with magical nights like this one and with the French forward making public statements that confuse everybody. Messi took some months to adapt but we are finally starting to get glimpses of his best possible version as he prepares to play his final tournament for Argentina. All three stars are getting as ready as they can to represent their national teams at the end of 2022 in Qatar. PSG seems like a well-oiled machine but they started to function a little too late.
