PSG chief responds to Mohamed Salah transfer talk

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi paid tribute to the “amazing” Liverpool star.

Mohamed Salah was instrumental again for Liverpool last weekend, proving a goal and an assist in a comprehensive 2-0 victory over title rivals Manchester City. And yet Salah is now less than one month away from being able to sign a pre-contractual agreement with another, non-English team.

The Egyptian’s current deal with Liverpool expires next summer and his representative and the club appear to be in a stand-off. Salah could agreed terms elsewhere in January and Paris Saint-Germain were rumoured to be interested in securing his services.

However PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has revealed that Salah does not play a part in the club’s transfer plans.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Al-Khelaifi said: “It’s not true. He’s a fantastic and amazing player, but we’ve never considered him, to be honest. We know every club would love to have him, but this rumour about us is simply not true.”

However the PSG chief admitted that the club would consider strengthening the player squad in the upcoming January transfer window: “If there’s an opportunity, we will of course explore.“

What did Mohamed Salah say about Liverpool contract situation?

On Monday The Athletic reported that Salah is willing to accept a one-year extension with Liverpool, a major concession from the 32-year-old. The report adds that Salah is “growing increasingly exasperated” with the club’s negotiating tactics and is eager to re-sign.

“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in,” Salah told reporters after scoring twice in a 3-2 victory over Southampton.

“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.”

Liverpool have made an incredible start to life under new head coach Arne Slot. The Reds sit top of the table in both the Premier League and the Champions League, having lost only one game in all competitions this season.

Salah, in particular, looks rejuvenated under the new boss. He has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in 20 appearances, highlighting his continued importance to the team. The Liverpool faithful will be desperate to see him given the contract extension that he so clearly wants.
