Javier Pastore has expressed his desire to return to Italy after turning down a chance to move to the Premier League with Liverpool or Tottenham.

The Argentine playmaker has fallen out of favour at Paris Saint-Germain under boss Unai Emery and is in need of a January move to keep his Wolrd Cup hopes alive.

With the former Palermo player eyeing a return to Serie A, Inter Milan are reported to be monitoring his situation for the final few days of the winter window.

'I want to play more since my objective is to participate in this summer's World Cup,' Pastore told reporters.

'PSG? I am happy here but at the same time, I know that I risk losing out on the World Cup.

'I don't know what will happen and yes there is a lot of talk about Inter Milan but let's see. If I do leave, I would love to return to Italy since I know that league well.'

Pastore has scored 44 goals in 248 appearances for the Parisians since joining them from Palermo in 2011.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham are looking to bolster their attacking ranks this month as they compete across multiple competitions.

The Reds need to replace the void left by Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho while Mauricio Pochettino wants greater squad depth as he remains in talks to bring in Pastore's PSG team-mate Lucas Moura.

Both sides are believed to have placed bids in the region of £25million, but Pastore looks set to frustrate Jurgen Klopp and Pochettino by rejecting their advances.
