PSG receive boost as Neymar returns to training after ankle injury

Paris Saint-Germain have been handed a boost ahead of their forthcoming Champions League clash with Real Madrid as Neymar has returned to training.

The Brazilian has been out of action for more than two months after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during their 3-1 victory over Saint-Etienne on November 28.

PSG's Champions League campaign resumes on Tuesday when they host Real Madrid in the first-leg of their Round of 16 clash.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have received some good news ahead of the clash with Neymar's return to full training.

The forward, who turned 30 on Friday, has been pictured laughing and joking alongside his team-mates including Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

It will be a race against time for Neymar to prove his fitness to feature against Real Madrid next week, but his return to training will give PSG fans some hope that they start him alongside Messi and Mbappe against Los Blancos.

His injury back in November caused major concern as he fell to the ground and immediately called for medical attention after a challenge from Yvann Macon.

However, it was not the impact from the tackle itself that caused the injury. Instead, the injury came from the Brazilian forward landing awkwardly in his ankle.

Neymar tried to jump over Macon's leg to avoid the incoming challenge. However, he landed on the defender's shin and subsequently rolled his ankle - causing the outcry for help.

As a result, the medics rushed onto the pitch to attended to Neymar before placing him on a stretcher.

The Brazilian forward was then carried off the pitch and down the tunnel to receive further treatment.

In his absence, PSG won just four of their eight Ligue 1 games, though they are still 13 points clear at the top ahead of Marseille.

It has been a tough season for Neymar who has scored just three goals in 14 appearances across all competitions.
