PSG 'will need to pay Nice £8.5million to secure Christophe Galtier' as their next manager

Paris Saint-Germain will have to part with as much as £8.5million to get top managerial target Christophe Galtier to the club.

Galtier is the favourite to take over at the Parisian giants, having led Nice to a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season and into the Europa Conference League qualifiers.

But the 55-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, meaning PSG will have to seek a settlement with Nice in order for Galtier to join them as expected, according to Foot Mercato.

The French outlet also reports that PSG are unwilling to pay more than £4million for Galtier's services, with talks of players acting as makeweights in the deal with Nice instead.

Galtier is famous for his heroic exploits at Lille after taking over in December 2017 when they were in the relegation zone.

After avoiding relegation by a single point, the following season Galtier guided Lille to second in Ligue 1 and back into the Champions League after a seven-year absence.

The Frenchman followed up this incredible turnaround by winning the league with Lille in the 2020/21 season for the first time in 10 years and ahead of serial winners and financial giants PSG.

PSG have stepped up their pursuit of Galtier after losing out on bringing Zinedine Zidane to the club.

While many thought Zidane would be announced shortly after Mauricio Pochettino's sacking, the France and Real Madrid legend revealed that he did not want to take the PSG role, and is instead holding out for the France job after the World Cup in Qatar.

'I want to continue, I still have this flame, football is my passion,' Zidane told Telefoot. 'I'm 50 years old, fulfilled, I'm happy, that's the most important thing.'
