Parma 2-2 Inter: Visitors throw away two-goal lead, Thuram & Darmian score

Serie A leaders Inter squandered a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 against Parma in Serie A on Sunday, offering Napoli the chance to close the gap at the summit. 

Match Report

With head coach Simeone Inzaghi serving a touchline ban after being shown a red card last weekend, Inter were undone by two goals in nine second-half minutes. 

Matteo Darmian had put Inter ahead in the 15th minute, striking home at the near post as the ball went inside off the woodwork.

Though Parma improved after going a goal down, the league leaders increased their lead on the stroke of half-time through Marcus Thuram, whose fortuitously lobbed finish found its way over Zion Suzuki from inside the box. 

However, Parma, who had threatened visiting goalkeeper Yann Sommer in the first half, pulled a goal back on the hour through Adrian Bernabe, who sent a pinpoint effort into the bottom-right corner from 20 yards out. 

And the hosts turned the game on its head in the 69th minute when Jacob Ondrejka's mazy run ended with his strike deflecting off Darmian and past Sommer. 

Inter moved on to 68 points from their 31 games and four clear of second-placed Napoli, who travel to high-flying Bologna on Monday. 

Data Debrief: 

For the second time in Serie A this season, Inter have drawn a game after being ahead by two goals, their first since a 4-4 draw with Juventus back in October. The Nerazzurri also conceded two goals in the second half of that game. 

This was also just the second time in Serie A this season that Inter have conceded two goals in the space of nine minutes in the second half, after losing 3-0 to Fiorentina.

The result also saw Parma draw a Serie A match, recovering from a two-goal deficit for the first time since September 2024 (2-2 against Lecce). 

There was also a big moment for Thuram in the contest, with his goal the first time he has scored in Serie A since January. He took his tally to 14 league goals, a record for the Frenchman in a single season in Europe's top five leagues.
