Pato interview: it’s Milan’s turn to win the title; backs Amorim, praises Ramos and Modrić

Former Milan golden boy Alexandre Pato gave an exclusive interview, still with his heart set on the Rossoneri. The Brazilian legend expressed his hope that Milan can win the Serie A title, while also commenting on Amorim's coaching, praising new signings Gonçalo Ramos and Modrić, and recalling many memorable moments from his time at Milan.

Juventus-Milan: A classic rivalry etched in memory

Pato is full of memories when he talks about Juventus versus Milan. He recalls scoring against Mannini in Turin and setting up Ronaldinho to beat Buffon at San Siro. He also shared an anecdote: when he first arrived in Italy, he visited Del Piero without prior notice, and the latter warmly welcomed him. They had dinner together, and Piero paid the bill. Pato acknowledged that both clubs are historic giants and that, although both teams have the strength to compete for the championship, he firmly hopes Milan will lift the Serie A championship trophy.

New season outlook: Giving Amorim time to settle

Regarding the league title race, Pato believes that Milan and Inter are both favorites to win, and Napoli should not be underestimated either. He joked with a smile, "Inter has celebrated enough, now it's Milan's turn." He hopes Milan can reach the Champions League final soon.

Pato greatly appreciates coach Amorim's attacking football philosophy, believing it aligns with Milan's club tradition. "Amorim is very capable, but he has just taken over the team and needs time to familiarize himself with the entire squad and adapt to the intensity of Serie A. I have a feeling he can bring surprises to fans this season."

High praise for the two new signings: Ramos and Modrić

Pato is unequivocally optimistic about striker Gonçalo Ramos: "I am 100% confident in him. I saw his performances at the World Cup, and he is very strong. He is not a traditional target man; he moves flexibly, drops back to participate in build-up play, creates opportunities, and can also drift wide to create space for teammates to run into. I genuinely hope he can score many goals."

Regarding Modrić, Pato marvels at the Croatian midfielder’s style of play and imagines how wonderful it would be if Modrić could play alongside the likes of Ambrosini, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, and Kaká from back in the day. He hopes Modrić can win another championship at Milan.

Fond memories: Rossoneri years and future expectations

Pato revealed that he had planned to train with Milan last year but, unfortunately, missed the opportunity because his son was starting school for the first time. Now, he watches every Milan match on TV. He also talked about the EA FC game, saying that Nesta and Pirlo were the best players on the team back then, and that his in-game character was also well received by fans, thanks to Milan. He plans to take his son to the San Siro stadium to experience the passionate atmosphere firsthand. When asked if there was a possibility of returning to Milan in an official capacity in the future, the 36-year-old Pato said that anything is possible, and he is still continuously learning. Returning to Milan is something he deeply longs for.

On Ancelotti, Leonardo, and Maldini

Speaking about the Brazilian national team, Pato strongly backed Ancelotti to continue coaching the Seleção. He believes that, with insufficient preparation time for the World Cup, his work should not be completely dismissed, and that extending his contract until 2030 would allow Ancelotti to plan calmly for the national team. Regarding Leonardo's and Maldini's departure from Italian football, Pato said it is difficult for outsiders to understand all the internal details, and he wished them both a quick return to the football industry to shine again.
