Paz: Veteran teammates gave me confidence, told me not to fear showing myself

Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 in their final FIFA World Cup group stage match, and Nico Paz spoke to reporters in the mixed zone afterwards.

Congratulations on starting today. I'd like to ask about the team atmosphere. Many players have been with the team for years, but you're relatively new to the national team. What does this team mean to you, and how would you describe the atmosphere right now?

This team means a lot to me. Ultimately, a team that gets along well off the field will show it on the pitch. We help and communicate with each other. For us younger players, the veterans give us confidence and let us play our way and show our strengths. That translates directly into our performances.

Before the World Cup started, many people mentioned your name as a potential surprise player for Argentina. There's been a lot of talk about your potential. How do you feel about these expectations, and what do you think you can bring to Argentina in the knockout stage?

I'm very grateful for everyone's support and the love they've shown me. Everyone has been wonderful and welcomed me in the best way possible, which makes me feel really special. That support will help me perform better and play with confidence. I'm truly thankful to everyone.

Earlier, when you were at La Bombonera, you spoke about your family and your condition. Now that the group stage is over and the knockout stage is about to begin, how are you feeling? What's on your mind heading into the next phase?

The knockout stage is completely different from the group stage—it's a fresh challenge. We're all very excited and motivated. Of course, the priority right now is getting proper rest, because today's match was demanding. Starting tomorrow, we'll turn our focus to the next opponent.

Today marks Argentina's 50th World Cup victory, and you're part of that history. What have you learned from Messi, Otamendi, and the other experienced players on the squad? You're now representing the team's next generation.

I've learned a lot from them. Before and after every match, they speak with me and offer guidance. They've told me to be myself and not be afraid to express my playing style and characteristics on the field. I'm really grateful to them.
