Pep Guardiola drops major hint over his Man City future after quit theory

Manchester City’s hopes of lifting the Premier League title once more this season are fading but Pep Guardiola believes they could be firmly in contention next term

Pep Guardiola has promised that Manchester City will be ‘better’ next season in a clear hint about his future. City’s hopes of claiming the title are fading heading into the final portion of the season.

Guardiola’s side are second but their failure to beat Nottingham Forest in midweek has seen them fall seven points behind Arsenal, albeit they have a game in hand. Speculation about Guardiola’s future has been a topic throughout the campaign.

Despite still having just over a year to run on his current deal, it has been suggested that he could end up leaving this summer.

The Spaniard has since opened up on City’s issues this season and has promised that they will be improved next term. He said: "We are not a complete team to compete to, you know, to be solid. That is the reality. But we are in the process of many changes.

"If we can learn quicker, and still nothing is lost, you know, we can arrive in the last month with the chances.

"But I'm pretty sure next season will be better. Next season will be better. I don't have doubts about that."

And while Guardiola appears keen to help City to more success, he was not afraid to air one of his main complaints as he took aim at the FA and Premier League for their scheduling. City are set to take on Newcastle in the FA Cup just days after their draw with Nottingham Forest.

"For here in England it is more important what happened in the Carabao Cup than the Champions League games for the English teams," Guardiola added. "It happened since day one. So it's no surprise.

"In the schedule, the broadcasters decide because they say, we pay a lot of money. OK, well done, I got a lot of money. Thank you so much. You're so kind. So it's that."

Following their FA Cup clash with Newcastle, City will then turn their attention to their Champions League campaign, having once again been drawn to face Spanish giants Real Madrid in the last 16. City will then resume their push for the Premier League title as they travel to West Ham next weekend.

On the FA Cup, Guardiola said: “How many finals and semi-finals have we been to in the last few years? A lot. The FA Cup is so important, we are going to travel to Newcastle to try and get to the next round.”
