Peru 1-3 Spain: Oyarzabal's early goal sets tone for De la Fuente's men

Mikel Oyarzabal's hot streak for Spain continued as he set them on their way to a 3-1 win over Peru in their final warm-up match ahead of the World Cup.

Pedri was also on the scoresheet, while a Pedro Gallese own goal helped to keep their two-goal cushion late on after Jairo Velez pulled one back.

It took Oyarzabal just 101 seconds to give Spain the lead at Estadio Cuauhtemoc. Pau Cubarsi slid a lovely throughball into the forward, who profited from the slow-to-react defence by firing in a long-range effort from 25 yards.

Oyarzabal then saw a close-range volley balloon over the crossbar before he thought he had a tap-in from close range, but Fabio Gruber beat him to the cross, clearing the danger off the line via a deflection off Gallese.

And just after that, in the 32nd minute, Pedri got Spain's second, as he met Ferran Torres' cross after it cleared the outstretched hand of Gallese.

Adrian Ugarriza then hit the woodwork from inside the box shortly after, before heading over from a free-kick after the break, but Spain got their third eight minutes into the second half when Gallese inadvertently pushed Yeremy Pino's cross into his own net.

Velez pulled one back in the 66th minute, drawing David Raya off his line to turn in a cool finish over the line, but Peru could not mount more of a fightback as Spain finished on top.

World Cup favourites show their mettle in difficult conditions

Going into the match, the biggest concern for Spain would have been the altitude in Puebla, but they coped with it well against their South American opponents.

Oyarzabal scored for the sixth straight international game to get the ball rolling in the second minute and provided a bright spark, even if Spain's attack was not quite at its usual best.

La Roja managed just eight shots overall, worth 1.93 expected goals (xG), but they were clinical, scoring with both of their shots on target.

Torres had the chances to add to Spain's tally, despite playing out on the left in the continued absence of Lamine Yamal, but missed two glorious chances, dragging wide.

The most important thing for Luis de la Fuente was to get his team over the line with a win, which they did, extending their unbeaten streak in regulation time to 30 games.
