Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch revealed how much he wanted to "punch" Marcelo during his side's Champions League quarter-final first-leg loss to Real Madrid in 2011.
The towering frontman - now a media personality - was sent off after just 14 minutes of the north London side's 4-1 reverse against Los Blancos, but he feels the Brazilian left-back was responsible for it.
"The first yellow card was me being excitable, so I can give the referee that," Crouch told Paddy Power's 'From the Horse's Mouth' podcast.
"For the second one, I went to block a ball down the line from Marcelo and I did dive in a bit, but I didn't touch him.
"He's jumped up in the air and rolled around, and there is a camera angle where you can see he looks at the referee and celebrates as the red card comes out, then he jumps back up.
"I've never wanted to punch anyone more in my life! For them, that was seen as a win.
"They've won the game and they played me. I was naive to let myself get caught up in that."
Real Madrid were already 1-0 up when Crouch was sent off, with Emmanuel Adebayor having put Los Merengues in the lead.
The Togolese striker went on to have one of his best nights in a Real Madrid shirt, scoring a brace against a side that contained Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.
Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo added to the scoreline to give Real Madrid a foot in the semi-finals.
Crouch had to suffer through it all from the bowels of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
"The dressing room is underneath the stadium and there are tiers upon tiers of fans and you can hear them," he said.
"I'm sat in the dressing room with a towel over my head, hearing goal after goal after goal going in and I'm thinking, 'That's down to me'. That was a low point and a big regret."

crouch isn't wrong... that real madrid were exceptional, but played very dirty too... still, past is past, and no one can change it, be it fortunately or unfortunately
