Peter Schmeichel has named his Manchester United Player of the Season.
The former United keeper, who was between the sticks during the club's 1999 treble winning campaign, revealed all during a Twitter Q&A with supporters on Monday afternoon.
After posting asking fans to submit their questions, the former Danish international was inundated with replies.
One of those questions was posted by a fan, who asked who he thought was United's Player of the Season this year.
To which Schmeiche l replied: “Fred.”
The midfielder joined the Reds in a £52million deal from Shakhtar Donetsk in June 2018, but found life in the Premier League a struggle to begin with.
He made only 17 Premier League appearances under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season, and was left out of the first four matchday squads of the current campaign.
But with Solskjaer's side without Paul Pogba for large parts of this season, the Brazilian international has stepped up to mark and taken his chance.
So far this season, Fred has made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.
Schmeichel would also like to see his old club appoint a Director of Football.
When asked: “Do United need a director of football?” the Old Trafford icon replied: “Yes I believe that would be the right way to go.”
