Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was brutally substituted by Igor Tudor on Tuesday night and now Peter Schmeichel has shared his thoughts on the decision
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has slammed Igor Tudor's decision to substitute Antonin Kinsky during the first half of Tuesday's defeat to Atletico Madrid. The Spurs 'keeper suffered the humiliation of being replaced after just 17 minutes of Tuesday's 5-2 drubbing in Spain.
Kinsky had replaced Guglielmo Vicario for the Champions League last 16 first leg clash, as he looked to secure a regular place in Tudor's starting XI. However, the Czech shot-stopper had a horror start to the European fixture, making several errors which saw Tottenham plunge into a 3-0 deficit within the first 15 minutes.
The 22-year-old appeared devastated as he trudged down the tunnel after being replaced by Vicario, with no recognition from Tudor. Many are now likely to question the young star's future in north London following his public humiliation at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
And CBS Sports pundit Schmeichel has now slammed Tudor for the decision, accusing him of killing the young player's career.
He said: “I feel really, really sorry for him You make mistakes, you know, he’s put him in goal. Obviously, he’s costing the team the opportunity to win. Not that Tottenham have any opportunity to win. I mean, it was a terrible performance.
“But when this happened, when you look at the clock there, 14:55, what does Igor Tudor then? Well, he substitutes him.
“That’s going to have ramifications for the rest of his career. This will be a moment that everybody in football will always remember every time they see and hear his name.
“You make your choice as a coach and yes, it wasn’t going your way and you’re 3-0 down, there’s no way that this team would ever come back from that. You’ve got to stick with him and at least stick until half-time.
“What he’s done there, for me, he’s absolutely killed his career. That’s going to take something to get over that.”
Tudor explained his unusual decision after the game, claiming he had to make the change 'to preserve the team'.
The 47-year-old said: "It happened very rare things in my coaching 15 years, I never do that. It was necessary to preserve the guy, to preserve the team. Incredible situation, nothing to comment, you will see. It was, before the game, the right choice to do in the moment like we are.
"Pressure on Vicario, another competition, Toni is a very good goalkeeper. So I was, for me, the right decision. After this, of course, it is easy to say that it was not the right decision.
"I explained to Toni, also speaking after, that he is the right guy and a good goalkeeper. Unfortunately, it happened in this big game, these mistakes.
"We started the game, it was too much for us. In this moment, when we are fragile, we are weak. Even the second half was 4-2, it was almost 4-2 with Richarlison. We tried to score a goal in 4-2 and then we conceded the goal."
The Lilywhites will now have to focus back on their daunting Premier League relegation battle as they travel to Liverpool on Sunday. Spurs currently sit one point above the bottom three with nine games left.

Disagreed completely with Schemichel. The errors were bizarre for a goal keeper at that level. It was glaring the keeper had lost composure and worse damage could have been done. As it stands, Spurs still have a chance.
Spurs have a chance? what chance

Why should Kimsky be left playing until d' half time ? Only just 22 minutes in game times he had already made a howler , making so many mistakes , yvinceding goala stupid bizarre performance during that stint of time the he should grabs thise Oppurtunities with better performance wise zhe he should have been selected d 1st. team shot dropper gor Spurs instead of Bicatio . I agree with Schmeicel here. But Igor Tudor shouldn’t have benched Vicario in the first place. You put a novice Keeper in such an important match against ruthless opponents when your team is already in horrible form then substitute him within 20 minutes. That’s the end of his career,Same thing happened to that Liverpool goalie and his career hasn’t recovered since then but atleast he was put cause first choice was injured

why did Kinsey start in the 1st place in a match of this magnitude against this opposition away from home. Idk the facts nor did I watch the match just th replays of the 3 goals. Why did the defenders pass back the ball to the keeper under such pressure I. the 1st place.

Igor Tudor badly need a tutor, has NO semblance of a coach, but with his goatee, he looks more like a Goat, ability doubtful with a butt, take a leave from Levenkusan that an inept coach CAN NEVER ADAPT, board has yo quickly act and have him SACKED for which Spurs making art of sacking PERFECT

yall need to sack this fool of a coach he made his choice with the keepers and it wasn't going to plan and u change the player after 15mins....if it was a striker who had gotten 3sitters to score in 15mins and didn't score any would he had taken him off at that time I doubt it....so that what Tudor did really gonna affect the player career....so schimechel really has a point he should have stick with the boy until about half time

Mr Peter you comment too soft and emotional and not logical. The guy should work to turn his performances around when called upon next time. The coach is trying to be tough on the players which is correct. They are relegating bro
