Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips will spend the 2026-27 season out on loan at Sheffield United.
Phillips has struggled for fitness, form and minutes during his time at Man City, having joined from Leeds United in 2022.
The midfielder has made only 32 appearances for City, making just six starts.
He last featured for City in September 2025, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheff Utd.
However, he played just three times. He was sent off in the Sheffield derby and, in the process, sustained a season-ending injury.
Yet he has now returned for a second spell at Bramall Lane, as Chris Wilder's Blades aim to push for promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
"We've stayed in contact with Kalvin throughout the summer and in those conversations what was always clear was both sides wanted to make this happen," said Wilder.
"Clearly, there has had to be a degree of patience to get a deal completed. Make no mistake, this is a good deal for the football club.
"Since the first day Kalvin walked through the door here, he instantly ticked the boxes in terms of personality and character, both on the field and behind the scenes and he offers more experience in a crucial area of the pitch.
"Kalvin is a winner; he's achieved plenty in his career and he'll set the example to this young squad we have here."
The Blades, who finished 13th in the Championship last term, are also attempting to sign Leicester City centre-back Harry Souttar.
Wilder's team face Birmingham City in their opening league game of the season on Saturday.
