Danish Police criticize former Danish international Jens Stryger Larsen for creating a hostile atmosphere before the Scandinavian clash in the qualification for the UEFA Champions League between Malmo FF and FC Copenhagen.
"We hate Copenhagen, we hate Copenhagen, we hate Copenhagen allez allez," sang Malmo fans and several players, including Jens Stryger Larsen, after their win in the Champions League qualification against RFS. The Danish police are now criticizing the Danish ex-national team player.
Malmö FF advanced to the third round of the Champions League qualifiers on Wednesday, and it stirred up great emotions among both fans and players.
In the third round of the qualification, they will face FC Copenhagen, and therefore, the players, along with the crowd, launched a hate song against the Danish champions.
The fact that Danish ex-national team player Jens Stryger Larsen led the group song has sparked criticism from the Danish police.
"We consider it a high-risk match, and we do so because there is a strong antagonism between Malmo FF and FCK, almost on a par with Brondby and FCK," says Peter Dahl, senior police inspector at the Copenhagen Police, to BT.dk
"We are going to approach the game massively with dialogue, because we want those matches to be played in good order," he says, and then criticizes the former Brondby player, who has played 54 international matches for Denmark.
"Now I also noticed that there was a national team player from Denmark who was very aggressive in his campaign. It is of course a shame that we are not all trying to combat this evil instead of helping to stir up a hostile atmosphere."
Danish police have introduced a stricter penalty zone around Parken and have ordered FC Copenhagen to keep the Swedish spectators in the stands for up to an hour after the end of the match.
The first match will be played on Tuesday 5 August in Malmö, and the return match will take place in Parken a week later.
