According to Portuguese outlet Observador, Ronaldo recently announced his retirement from international football. The Portuguese Football Federation had planned a tribute match for him, but the 41-year-old forward turned down the proposal to return to the Portugal squad for one final game.
Observador also reported that the relationship between Jorge Jesus and Ronaldo is currently quite tense. A phone call between the two, arranged by Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença, was originally scheduled for this Thursday but did not take place.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is unwilling to speak with his national team coach. As a result, the idea of a final official call-up as a tribute has been ruled out.
