Premier League clubs agree on second major change to summer transfer window

The Premier League have chosen to bring forward the close of the transfer window on deadline day to 7pm - four hours earlier than the traditional 11pm with staff working hours being considered

The Premier League has opted to bring forward the deadline in this summer's transfer window - shifting in from 11pm to 7pm as they look to ease the burden on club staff.

This summer will involve a double transfer window, which is motivated by the Club World Cup, thus allowing teams involved to plug holes and fill gaps. The new time shift has been backed by those in the Premier League and the Football League as they look to ensure more of a natural working pattern.

With the 11pm deadline those who work on the admin side at clubs and at the leagues can find themselves at their desks beyond midnight, but bringing forward the time by four hours will hopefully change that, reports the Daily Mail.

The move has not been universally well received though with some citing numerous issues that could emerge. Not least the ability for foreign leagues to continue conducting their business whilst those in England are unable to react or replace outgoing players.

Others have claimed that, with the final 24 hours often the most frantic, every minute is crucial and depriving them of four hours is hugely detrimental.

This summer's first transfer window will open on June 1 and then close on June 10. The newly expanded Club World Cup will feature the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid and allow them to alter their squads before the tournament in America kicks off.

Trent Alexander-Arnold could be among those to move in the initial ten days with Los Blancos potentially benefitting. They're looking to land the Liverpool star whilst Manchester City may look to replace Kevin De Bruyne, who has not committed to playing in the tournament.

The second summer window will then open on June 16 and end on September 1. In the winter the window will open from January 1 to February 2. No decision on closing time for that window has reportedly been made. Clubs usually have a two-hour period after the cut-off point to complete deals, but paperwork will need to have been submitted to the FA by 7pm.

This summer could see some major deals take place with Manchester City and Manchester United both needing to make major changes. Those at Old Trafford will need a major overhaul whilst Pep Guardiola needs to get City back to their previous heights. Arsenal are expected to go big in their pursuit of a striker.
