The Carabao Cup will next week provide English football with its first taste of video assistant referees being used in multiple matches at the same time.
The English Football League announced this summer that the VAR system could be used at all Carabao Cup fixtures played at a Premier League stadium during the 2018-19 season.
The competition organisers have now confirmed the technology will be used in four second-round matches, beginning with three fixtures on Tuesday.
Brighton versus Southampton, Fulham against Exeter and Leicester's home clash with Fleetwood will all have the technology available on August 28, with Stuart Attwell, Michael Oliver and Jon Moss acting as VARs respectively.
Kevin Friend will then be the VAR for Everton's home match against Rotherham the following night.
The EFL said: 'Three matches taking place on Tuesday 28 August will utilise VAR - the first time that the technology will feature in multiple matches at the same time in this country - as the EFL continues its commitment to support English football's contribution to the live trial currently taking place.'
VAR was implemented reasonably successfully during the World Cup, but in the build-up to the tournament Premier League clubs voted to delay the technology's use.
A statement in April read: 'Premier League clubs have today agreed to continue advanced testing of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) throughout season 2018/19.
'The decision came after comprehensive discussions regarding the progress made in VAR trials in English football, and key learnings from the many competitions using it elsewhere.
'The clubs recognised and are grateful for the substantial developments made by PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) managing director Mike Riley and his team.'
VAR technology will again be used in selected FA Cup fixtures from the third round onwards, as it was last season. The system was also used in this month's Community Shield.

Bring it on,remember what was said by people those years before the nets were introduced?they said it was going to ruin the drama in football and take away what people enjoyed to see,the nets were eventually introduced and what did that introduction take away?nothing, now this new device if used, would eliminate offsides scored with the pretense the striker was just offside or just on side, where as the goal should not have stood. The playing ground would be level for all sides now and any team ,irregardlessof what players they have, would defeat any side with easy now much to what the politics in football don’t want. All these new developments are there to make football great. To us the older supporters it is not good because we were born watching the controversies in the game and we think it is ok. Twenty years down the line people would ask how we were enjoying the game with all its unfairness. We don’t see that as they will see it but it is what is happening in football that we like and still want. This has to change and it will one day change and one day football will be as fair as cricket and rugby as well as basketball. I wish at my age that l be there to see it in full swing and players getting sent of to tackles such as the one we saw at the champions league final. My opinion.

✅ VAR will be implemented ✅ Extra-time replaced by penalties ✅ ABBA penalties replaced by normal penalties ✅ Bookings only apply to Carabao Cup

We need VAR when the quarter final of the Carabao cup is drawn to ensure no dodgy stuff takes place like last year.

I like the concept, but there have to be a few boundaries. Captains request perhaps? More like the cricket system.

Why should only 4 games be ruined. Should be all or nothing.

What’s the point. Surely it’s all or nothing. What about those that will inevitably go out when VAR could have made a difference but it’s not covering their game?

Don't agree with it at all. So what if a ref makes a wrong decision or what ever. Footy has been around for over 100 years, all this pitch side tech is going to ruin it. I 100% agree with Bob Mills on this.
