Sergio Ramos says Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric deserves to win FIFA's The Best award ahead of Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Maybe other players have more marketing or bigger names, Modric deserves to win the award," said Ramos.
Modric is one of three candidates, with Mohamed Salah also an option to win the prize at the London gala on September 24.
"We will see who wins. He's a great friend and there are few players I feel prouder of to have in my team," added Ramos on Modric. "He's a huge star. He's one of the few people who (if he wins) I'd be as happy for as if they gave it to me."

I think it's true. Modric really did deserve the award. sure football is all about goals... but if someone doesn't set it up it won't be a goal. Modric and his fellow midfield maestro took ronaldo to the top. and ronaldo took all the goals. the glory.. I think it's good that uefa started to put some sense in their head and stop giving messi and ronaldo back to back awards like they play defense,midfield and attack

Ramos is just intent on having a dig at Ronaldo. He's still hurt the chap left and said Juve feels like a family. I must agree that the award Modric truly deserves is the FIFA Best as it combines both international and club football. The UEFA Best player should have gone to CR7 with Messi coming in at second. But come on, these awards are losing credence. How is it possible that Messi did not make the best 3 in the season past? Yes, Salah and Modric maybe played above expectation but neither of them were better than Messi. I think it's a collective effort to end the Ronaldo-Messi duopoly, but until they retire, it must be fair and not forced.

modric was lucky to play against weaker team in the world cup..when he meet France wat did he do..ronaldo played agaisnt strong..skillfull and physically fit qfican oppositions in the worldcup...so he manage to do well.to me he did nothing at all..playing against weak and dying argentine team..a careless nigerian deffence and a poor iceland team.y will u not do well..so modric does not desserve the world best..if Ronaldo was to be in madrid against atletico in super cup..they would have won..modric is not a threat to any other team..u cant compare him to ronaldo..is time may come but not now...pls sony give him the hype..

Ramos was blunt and straight to the point on this one... maybe rather harsh but I completely agree with him. where we find it difficult to accept that Messi and Ronaldo duopoly will be ended by Modric is because we were envisaging someone new and fresh out of the block.. like Mbappe Salah or Neymar. But Modric is humble, talented, has been consistent over the years and has had a wonderful 2017/2018 season 🔥🔥🔥

Modric performed well at both club and nation level he had a brilliant run last season so clearly he deserves to win the ballon d'or because what he has achieved and done implies.. I really think that Fifa was biased towards some certain players in this year's award... Modric was ever-present and a reliable asset for both club and country last season but to put him above the best is totally unacceptable... I saw a lot of comments here saying "Modric deserve it" but still, they can't back their words with the stats of his total performance last season... They're refusing to state his stats last season because they know it ain't enough to earn him such a prestigious award. But that's totally shameful for them... His world cup performance was very good but not to be compared with the one of HAZARD... We all are saying that Croatia beat England in(120) minutes and reach the final but we forgot too that the same England wasn't strong enough to force Belgium led by Hazard into extra time... Here, people tend to conclude and judge based liking and not performance and stats.
