Sergio Ramos 'is willing to take a pay cut' to secure his future at Real Madrid as the protracted saga about his future takes another twist.
It had looked like the 35-year-old defender would end his 16-year association with the Bernabeu club when his current contract expires this summer.
Real are currently only offering Ramos a one-year contract extension, in accordance with their policy for older players.
But the club captain wants the security of a two-year deal and, according to Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo, is willing to reduce his £315,000-a-week wages to get it.
It remains to be seen whether the trade-off is acceptable to Real but the Spain international is due to meet president Florentino Perez for discussions in the coming days.
There will have to be action taken quickly if Ramos is to stay at the club he signed for in 2005 as he would be able to leave for nothing in just a couple of months.
His career at the Bernabeu has been extraordinarily successful, with four Champions League triumphs as well as five league titles and two Spanish cups. In total, Ramos has played 670 times for the club, scoring 101 goals.
Ramos has played just 20 matches in a season disrupted by various injuries and a muscle issue kept him out of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night.
He is aiming to return for next week's second leg at Stamford Bridge, where Real will need to score at least once to make the final after Christian Pulisic's away goal in Madrid.

even as a barca fan, I simple can not see Sergio Ramos playing for another jersey. Imagine watching so clasico where ramos and pique are not tearing each other's head off, back in the day so clasico had so many great rivalries such as messi v ronaldo, ramos vs pique, Marcelo vs Dani alves, Navas vs ter stegens, Bale vs neymar, benzema vs Suarez and even casillas vs Valdes. I just don't want see another legend leave for the sake of perez' greed. hope he stay
