Rangnick leaves Manchester United to focus on Austria manager job

Ralf Rangnick will play no part at Manchester United going forward, as he instead wishes to focus on his new job as the manager of the Austrian national team.

It had always been the plan that Rangnick would be United's head coach until the end of this season while they looked to hire a long-term option to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which would be followed by a consultancy role as he remained part of the sporting operations setup at the club.

However, that plan has come to an end before it had even come to fruition, with Rangnick and the Red Devils parting ways, as confirmed in a club statement.

"We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months," read a statement on the United website.

"By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

"We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career."

Things haven't gone as smoothly as hoped for United under Rangnick since he came in and there were already doubts before he agreed to become Austria's next manager back in April.

That move seemed to be the writing on the wall for his relationship with the club, as has now been confirmed.
