Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on for loan for the 2025-26 season and the La Liga champions will have the option to sign him on a permanent basis for £26million next summer
Marcus Rashford could quickly go from sub to starter for Barcelona after they were hit with a transfer dilemma. Rashford, 27, completed his season-long loan move to Barca last week, having seen his Manchester United career turn sour.
After returning from a loan spell with Aston Villa, the England international was ordered to train away from United's first-team as he and four team-mates were put in a 'bomb squad'. But now Rashford has a turned a page, already feeling 'at home' just days after landing in Barcelona ahead of his move which includes a £26million option to buy.
The forward made his debut on Saturday, as Barca beat Japanese side Vissel Kobe 3-1 in a pre-season friendly. Rashford played 30 minutes and his pass to Robert Lewandowski was key in setting up the tourists' second goal, scored by new signing Roony Bardghji.
But how much longer will he and Lewandowski share the same dressing room? Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that Rashford's new team-mate is being monitored by clubs in the Saudi Pro League, who are a plotting a move this summer.
It's no secret that Barcelona could do with an influx of cash. Their failure to guarantee top target Nico Williams immediate registration with La Liga resulted in the £50million transfer breaking down and prompted Hansi Flick's side to pursue Rashford.
Lewandowski turns 37 in a few weeks' time and despite him racking up 42 goals last season, Barca would have a decision to make if they received a lucrative bid. His departure would lead to a vacancy at centre-forward, something which Rashford would relish.
The United loanee recently suggested that he's 'more natural' as a number nine, preferring to play centrally rather than out wide, where he debuted in Japan. "For me, playing as a number nine is becoming more comfortable, more natural," Rashford told YouTube channel xBuyer last month.
"Small things, such as playing back to goal, it's becoming easier for me. You're always in front of the goal so you're always dangerous."
Should Barcelona sell Robert Lewandowski and use Marcus Rashford as a No.9? Have your say in the comments section.
At things stand, Rashford is expected to start the season supplementing Barcelona's established front three of Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski and Raphinha. That's a role which Ferran Torres thrived in last season, scoring 19 goals and serving as the perfect understudy to Lewandowski, whether it be coming off the bench or from the start.
Torres will be hoping for more starts this season as Flick manages Lewandowski's minutes - unless he's sold. Any move to Saudi Arabia would hinge on the striker's decision, though, and right now he and his family are happy in Catalunya after Barca extended his contract until 2026 earlier this year.
After Barcelona landed in Asia for their pre-season tour, Lewandowski was asked if this would be his last season with the La Liga champions. "There are many things in my head," the Pole replied.
"For me the important thing is not what happens at the end of the season, but what I can do in the current season. I have peace of mind, let's look at this season first."
Lewandowski is also excited to play alongside Rashford, saying: "He is a player with enormous talent. I remember we played Manchester United (in 2023) and Marcus was in really good shape. He can help us and he can play in different positions. There are many games, so he needs to be like that."
Flick agrees, lauding Rashford as his side prepare to face South Korean giants Seoul on Thursday. "Marcus is a great player," the Barca boss said.
"I've been following him for many years, since he started his career at United. He has a lot of quality, and we hope he can show it this season with the team."

Broooo😂😂..Just calm down . Trust me Lewa was done last season...he was able to score those goals because of the myriad of Chances he was getting . 2ndly we never missed him when he didn't play, Ferran Slotted in Perfectly . 3rdly whether he did it once or not....the fact remains that he was able to score 30goals under a Dysfunctional United Side led by Ten haag...I don't think any Barcelona Player Can score 30 in that Average United Side . And Bro,...I am not in Any way stating That Rashford is a better player than Lewa (career wise)
Just keep quiet and don't even talk about United. You know nothing about the situation at United and what it was when Rash had his best season. For you to say we didn't miss Lewa at Barca shows you don't even know what he brings to a team. It's kids like you that go about saying trash when you know nothing. I won't waste my time with you further.

Stop confusing yourself. In your first statement you said "if Rashford was to be playing Lewa's position..." what does that mean to you? You could have compared Rash to Ferran because the latter was a backup and not the main man. You think Lewa was finished last season? If you don't know that Barca missed him when he was injured then you didn't follow up very well. Barca definitely needs a suitable replacement because of his age but he's still better than the other 2. In case you didn't notice, I support both Barca and United so I know Rash all too well. As I said, Rash has only got one good season (playing on the wings) in the whole of his career and he's already 27 so it doesn't making any sense hyping him... let's watch and see what he'd achieve at Barca.

1st of all, I never implied Rashford is anything compared to Lewa (Career wise).......If you watched barca last season you would see that Lewa is done and dusted....the reason he was still able to score that crazy amount of goals is because of the enormous amount of Chances Created for, so even if he missed a chance he is guaranteed to get another one . But you can't say the same for a team like Manchester United, once you miss one you don't get to have another one . Now imagine Lewa at United last season..... and Rashford under Flick last season....................I guesss we wouldnt be having this conversation then . Like I said earlier if Ferran could do it...Rashy can , Provided he is given the right amount of time . But am not comparing him to Lewa (Career wise)...and yes I know when the time is right Barca will sign a new striker

Obviously, you don't know who you're comparing Rashford to. Rashford has not proven himself as a 9. The 32 goals you spoke of is his only wonderful season in his career and he played mostly as a winger... hope you know he's 27yrs now? There's no point over-hyping him because he's in Barca. Eventually, the club would need a proven 9 to replace Lewa or adjust the team to play without one.

In La liga and in a team like barc I say yes, Rash is capable of hitting 40 goals. La liga has proved to be soft for players. Take an example of Raphinha and Athony. Also, look at how barc plays, free-flowing football with Pedri, Raphinha, and Yamal doing all the dockey work. All what Rash wants at the moment is confidence and confidence can be given by the trust the coach shows in you. No doubt he is one of the good finishers, and he has a powerful strike.

Bro Guess what Rashford dropped 32 under TEN HAAG 😳.....I mean TEN HAAG 😳" . Even Ferran dropped 19 coming from the bench most of the time . . Trust me If Rashford where to be at Barcelona last season under flick playing Lewa position...he can drop even more than what lewy did... Because Barca last season was demonic, the amount of Chances Created was our of this world...they created so many chances even Lewa started throwing them away

Lewy might be 37, but he’s still playing with high intensity. One more season for Barca and see how he goes will be necessary.

Yeah, yeah I agreee with it. Lewandowski has helped Barca so much but he should be sell because of his age and his deteriorating performance like last year where he failed to score in the last 6 matches and gave chance to the opponent. Barca should then sign left wing forward who's right footed.
Last six matches he was injured imo and scored in the last match of the season
