Real Madrid have received a letter from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) containing an apology after an incorrectly disallowed goal on Wednesday evening.
The RFEF admitted that they made a mistake in chalking off David Alaba's first half effort against Elche, as they had ruled Karim Benzema offside in the build-up at the time.
Benzema himself had two strikes ruled out, although he eventually managed to get on the scoresheet in the 75th minute to mark his first goal since winning the Ballon d'Or.
According to Diario AS, the federation sent a letter outlining their error, and promised to work to remove similar mistakes from their procedures in future.
As it was, the mistake did not influence the eventual result of the game, with Los Blancos running out 3-0 winners, with goals from Federico Valverde, Benzema and Marco Asensio.
However it could very easily have been a different story, with the versatile Austrian defender's disallowed finish coming in the 26th minute with the visitors only 1-0 up.
In total the visitors had as many goals disallowed as they managed to put past Edgar Badia at Estadio Manuel Martin Valero.
But the victory does mean that Real are now six points clear of Barcelona at the top of LaLiga after beating their bitter rivals in the first Clasico of the season.
And given the result, Madrid are thought to have taken the RFEF's apology in good spirits, according to Madrid Zone.
The Spanish outlet - dedicated to the club - tweeted: 'Real Madrid were friendly in their reply saying that "these are mistakes that can happen", but have asked for these mistakes to be prevented in the future as the 'integrity of the league is in question'.'
Carlo Ancelotti's side are the only side unbeaten in the league this season, and sit top of their Champions League group as they make light work of the hectic period prior to the World Cup in Qatar.
Both the Yashin Trophy and Ballon d'Or trophies were awarded to Los Blancos players, too, in Thibaut Courtois and Benzema respectively, after a dominant year for the Spanish and European champions.

If the English FA were to take cue from their Spanish counterparts, there will be multiple letters of apology to clubs every match day.

Spanish FF are honest people, we can consider it as mistake, but what we see from English FA is match fixing, they will never apologize to club and if any staff of the club criticize the ref, he will be given fine and suspension, If Tuchel as not been sacked he would have serve a suspension for criticizing Taylor, they already fined him and was about to suspend him before he was sacked

This is medicine 💊 after died we don't need there letter ✉️ will the letter ✉️ add to alaba goals this season. what if we draw the match because we were playing 1-0 at then and anything could have happened playing 1-1, I guess Barcelona paid you guys to allow us drop point, disallowed 3 goals, that was why benzema gave the that celebration when he scored.
