Real Madrid and Barcelona face being KICKED OUT of UCL over Rubiales scandal

Real Madrid and Barcelona's Champions League spots are now at risk over the Luis Rubiales scandal, according to reports in Spain.

In a shocking development on Monday, the Spanish FA have urged European governing body UEFA to consider expelling them due to the Spanish government's intervention over the ongoing World Cup 'kiss-gate' saga which saw £214,000-a-year official Rubiales kiss Spain star Jennifer Hermoso on the lips without her consent.

If this request is granted, it would mean all Spanish clubs - including global giants Real and Barcelona - would be excluded from UEFA competitions like the Champions League (also affecting Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad), Europa League (Villarreal and Real Betis) and the Europa Conference League (Osasuna).

Their spots in Europe are now threatened after comments from Spanish FA chief Andreu Camps criticising the Spanish government for weighing in on the scandal engulfing president Rubiales after he kissed Hermoso and grabbed his crotch in the royal box alongside Queen Letizia and her 16-year-old daughter Infanta Sofia.

As reported by Onda Cero, Rubiales' supporters in the Spanish FA (RFEF) have mobilised to attack the country's government for calling for Rubiales' resignation.

UEFA rules state: its members 'shall manage their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties.

'Any body or decision of a body that has not been elected or appointed in accordance with said procedure, even provisionally, will not be recognized by UEFA'.

Onda Cero's sources claim the reason UEFA have not yet spoken out on the scandal is because their president Aleksander Ceferin is personal friends with Rubiales.

RFEF's interim president Pedro Rocha must now decide whether to maintain the threat from general secretary Camps, a long-term ally of Rubiales, to UEFA or order it to be withdrawn, and whether to remove Camps from his position.

The RFEF has called an 'urgent and extraordinary' meeting for Monday to discuss Rubiales' position.

Rubiales has so far refused to resign over the incident with Hermoso last Sunday in Sydney, claiming the kiss was 'consensual', which Hermoso denies.

There are widespread demands he is sacked, with the entire Spain coaching staff resigning over the issue, and the Spanish government also wants him out.

Rubiales was expected to resign on Friday but instead hit out at what he called 'false feminists' in a bizarre and defiant speech.

FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales on Thursday and announced on Saturday he had been suspended for three months from national and international football activities pending an internal investigation after its sexual violence protocol was triggered.

The Spanish government cannot fire Rubiales but has strongly denounced his actions and said on Friday it was seeking to get him suspended using a legal procedure before a sports tribunal.

Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz is due on Monday to meet representatives of the women's players' union FUTPRO, which represents Hermoso, and the Association of Spanish Footballers to ensure football is a sector 'that has decent conditions and spaces free of sexist violence'.

Maria Jesus Montero, acting budget minister, said on Sunday Rubiales should not return to leading Spanish football. 'A person who lies, who has made a show of not having understood what the fight for equality means in an area as important as sport, cannot have the direction of football in this country in his hands,' she said.

Meanwhile, Rubiales' mother has locked herself inside a church and gone on hunger strike in protest against what she calls the 'inhuman' treatment of her son.
