The stands of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu are still not filled.
In the first LaLiga Santander game of the season against Getafe, the turnout was poor and, with just 48,466 in attendance, it was the lowest count since 2009.
Against Leganes the spectators increased to 59,255 but it remained some way short of the 69,000 averaged last season.
Despite the concerning figures, those in the Real Madrid offices are calm and are confident that the attendances are so low because so many people are still on holiday, and therefore not in a position to occupy the stands of the Bernabeu.
"I have no doubt that the fans will be with the team," said Julen Lopetegui at a recent press conference.
"They will be encouraging as always.
"What happened with Getafe was to do with the dates, but we are confident that they will support us."
The numbers this season are particularly striking given that just last season saw a record reached as Real Madrid closed the campaign averaging 90 percent attendances.
Now, the holidays are over and the Bernabeu awaits the return of its occupants.
