Real Madrid celebrate their Champions League success at the Bernabeu

Sunday brought to an official end yet another campaign for Real Madrid, as they celebrated their 13th European Cup at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The heroes of Kiev were greeted in the Spanish capital throughout Sunday afternoon, before a carnival atmosphere descended on the club's iconic stadium which was packed to the rafters with supporters.

Not only were the football team celebrated, the basketball team under the club's banner were also welcomed back after their glorious Euroleague campaign.

Fans chanted for the stars of both teams and Gareth Bale was given the welcome befitting of a 90s boy-band member as he entered the pitch, although by far the loudest chant of the night was one which was shared by both fans and players alike; 'Cristiano, stay.'

Ronaldo quickly got into the party atmosphere himself as he danced with Marcelo, a fry cry from the stressed individual we saw deliver his now infamous post-match interview in which he spoke of his time with Los Blancos in the past tense.

A huge raised plinth in the middle of the pitch was constructed to house the celebrations, and when Sergio Ramos arrived with the trophy, the stadium erupted once more.

It was the kind of event worthy of such a fine end to the season, although once the cold reality of Real Madrid's dismal LaLiga campaign is assessed in the summer, changes will likely follow in one capacity or another.

Players were brought onto the pitch in the order of their squad number from highest to lowest, although there were exceptions with the club's captains reserved until last, something which notably Bale was exempt from, an issue which has left him previously upset.

Once everyone was on the stage the true chanting could begin.

Players got involved with the Queen classic 'We are the Champions' whilst there was also a fireworks display before Ramos addressed the crowd.

"They said it was impossible, but here we are again," he said.

"People had already doubted us when we got two in a row.

"We must thank the president, he's helped make us great, also the coach for his great work."

Zinedine Zidane, a normally reserved figure, then took over and moved to thank the supporters for their part in the club's recent successes.

"I can't say anything more than thank you," he declared.

"You've always been here to support us.

"I thank you with all my heart."

Finally, it was the turn of Ronaldo who spoke in a much more positive way than on Saturday evening.

"What can I say about this club? I've been proud to play for the biggest club in the world," he admitted.

"You have given us support in every single match."
