Luka Modric has become the key figure for Real Madrid now that Cristiano Ronaldo has left the club and the dressing room is united in its support for his The Best and Ballon d'Or candidacy.
Thanks to his charisma in the dressing room, the midfielder is the chosen one from the players' point of view to replace Ronaldo as Real Madrid's main representative at the major individual awards.
He has already won the Golden Ball as the best player at the World Cup and UEFA's best player award for the 2017/18 season, but he and his teammates want him to lift further prizes.
"He deserves what he has achieved and he deserves many more prizes," Nacho said of his teammate.
The coaching staff back him too, with Julen Lopetegui speaking out in support for the 32-year-old.
"I am convinced that he'll be awarded the Ballon d'Or, as he has had a fantastic season and would deserve it," Loptetegui said.
It's clear, then, that all at Real Madrid are keen for Modric to start winning the individual awards that Ronaldo so often brought back with him to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Come on Modric, take advantage of the wave you're on. Well, that and that Cr is not on your team blinding the cavemen also helps. Everything has to be said. All cn Modric! And if not ... come on Bale !!!

Modric has had a fantastic season, no doubt. People are saying Ronaldo has done nothing apart from scoring and that his former teammates were the ones doing all the work. it's sad to see how ungrateful some fans can be. Remember when Ronaldo helped us edge pass Wolfsburg in the UCL(which we later won)?? Ronaldo gave up a chance of scoring his 50th career hattrick so Benzema can build his confidence....He may be selfish in front of goal sometimes but that what you need from a finisher...Lets appreciate what Cr7 has done for this great club and stop saying he only scored goals cause those goals won us three consecutive UCL trophies...Hala Madrid, and may the best player win

I would like to know what ronaldo has done besides pushing 500 times the ball. He has never done anything for any partner. Modric / ramos / carvajal / casemiro have split their souls to keep Madrid up. I'm not saying that Ronaldo is bad, but the others have given their lives to send him 3000 balls, of which he has put 500.

Modric has been the baton of madrid for many years and now many value it only for the departure of Cristiano (if CR continued this newspaper would ask for the gold ball for him and many fans too)

CR remains the greatest player in the world in terms of individual achievements, pace, intelligence, flair. It’s thanks to him that real could beat Juventus and win the Champions league. He scored the highest number of goals at champions league, he scored 4 goals in 4 matches at the World Cup, what else do you want from him. He deserves Ballon d’or. Please it’s not a rule that you must play in la Liga to have ballon D’or.
