Florentino Perez has claimed Real Madrid need a "good coach" amid rumours of Jose Mourinho's impending return.
Mourinho seems set to take charge of Madrid for a second spell, with Los Blancos having failed to win a trophy in 2025-26.
Xabi Alonso was dismissed in January and replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa, but Madrid failed to progress in the Copa del Rey and were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.
They also finished a distant second behind Barcelona in LaLiga, and it seems Madrid will now turn back to Mourinho, who previously coached them between 2010 and 2013.
Benfica boss Mourinho won one LaLiga title during his time at Madrid. He oversaw 174 matches, winning 126 (72.4%).
"[Kylian] Mbappe, Vinícius [Junior], [Jude] Bellingham, [Arda] Guler, [Federico] Valverde, [Aurelien] Tchouameni. They're the best in the world," Perez said in an interview with Spain's national broadcaster TVE.
"A good coach, with all these players, is going to make them part of another very important era in Real Madrid history."
Asked directly about Mourinho, Perez said: "[He is] a good coach, clearly."
Madrid's long-time president Perez called for elections earlier this month, and is now going up against Enrique Riquelme in the club's first contested vote in 20 years.

Madrid need a manager not a coach, same with Chelsea. It takes a good board to know the difference. Barcelona, Bayern, Liverpool they thrive on a coach more because they hv a system and sign players based on that culture. Clubs like Chelsea and Madrid don't hv time for time for that. It's about the franchise, media, managing the staff and outside sources. Surprisingly Man City and PSG adapt with both Coach and Manager and it started with Alex Ferguson. That's the test for Carrick with his new season, can he inter switch both managing and coaching. Can he stike the balance
Exactly. How can the president be the one making signings? Perez is the one signing players for Real Madrid when we have a coach and sporting director. That’s why Real Madrid don’t play beautiful football

We need at least 4 quality signings to balance the team. RW, two midfielders and one cb

With JM at the helm of affairs of RM, the aforementioned players would actually attach seriousness to their new roles on the pitch.
