Real Madrid took the decision last season to end the so-called fear clause, which prevented their loan players from playing against them. As such, Takefusa Kubo was able to face Los Blancos on Saturday afternoon, yet Villarreal boss Unai Emery decided to only bring the young Japanese playmaker off the bench in stoppage time.
Emery will have his reasons for bringing Kubo on so late, but they are not all shared by Real Madrid. Los Merengues' leaders, led by Florentino Perez, went to the Estadio de la Ceramica with the idea of seeing their team win, but also to witness how Kubo got on against his parent club.
However, with the 19-year-old making his way onto the pitch in the 91st minute, they were not able to see much of him. This is something that has occurred quite often this season, certainly more frequently than Real Madrid would like.
Kubo is the young talent that Los Blancos have the most faith in and they are confident that, with his room for improvement, the sky is the limit. After the match, the Real Madrid leaders that had made the trip to the Community of Valencia conveyed to the player that they still have a lot of confidence in him and his football, with the president at the helm.
What they did make clear to him, however, is that he needs to play and to have more game time. This is clearly a problem at the moment, given how often Kubo finds himself on the substitutes' bench, especially in LaLiga Santander.
Real Madrid, like with Martin Odegaard last season, are in permanent contact with the player. As is logical, Villarreal are the team that makes a decision regarding Kubo's game time, but Los Blancos are there as support for the Japanese midfielder. They are taking care of him and have reaffirmed their support for him, as they showed after the match on Saturday.
In just the five minutes that Kubo was on the pitch for against his teammates at his parent club, the youngster showed that he is unafraid and has confidence in his own abilities. There was one moment when he could have secured all three points for Villarreal, having made his way into the area, but Thibaut Courtois managed to get to his shot.
Despite only having a short cameo appearance, Real Madrid's leaders were left thinking the same thought they had before they travelled to Villarreal: Kubo has a big future at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

I have seen Kubo played many times and he is absolutely a gem. with a few more game experience on loan, he will be added to Real Madrid first team.

Unai Emery is bad vibes for Kubo, instead of receiving good Ebening he's receiving bad Ebening by warming the bench.π

Villarreal wants Real to think Kubo is bad so they'll sell him to them eventually.πππ. Smart move, Emery.

This kid is more decisive than Vinicius. The only reason why he was loaned out was because of the lack of space on the first team, given his lack of Spanish citizenship. This kid can play for any big side in Europe. Emery should not treat him like that.
