Real Madrid star holds talks with Álvaro Arbeloa after reduced role fuels speculation

Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal and head coach Álvaro Arbeloa crossed paths during the team’s first training session of the week, with both sides coming away from the conversation on good terms.

The meeting followed postgame footage from Madrid’s recent match at Valencia, which showed Carvajal visibly frustrated while speaking with fitness coach Antonio Pintus. The images fueled speculation that the veteran right back was unhappy about being left out of the starting lineup yet again.

No summit, no drama

The conversation took place during training in a relaxed atmosphere, with both men exchanging views openly and without tension. There were no raised voices, no incidents and no sense of a formal sit-down. It was simply two professionals talking.

Arbeloa regularly speaks one-on-one with his players, and he had already spoken with Carvajal after Madrid’s match against Rayo Vallecano. Tuesday’s exchange was seen internally as another step in shutting down any lingering controversy. According to sources cited by AS, the discussion was positive for both sides and aimed squarely at closing the door on any potential conflict.

Team first under a new coach

Arbeloa, who is approaching his first month in charge of Madrid, and Carvajal addressed the situation naturally and without friction. Each understood their respective roles, but both shared the same message. The team comes first, above any individual concerns. The priority now is unity and moving forward together.

Five straight league games on the bench

Carvajal’s situation has been shaped largely by injury and limited playing time. He was hurt in the most recent league Clásico on Oct. 26 and required surgery to remove what the club described as a loose body in his right knee. He returned at the start of the year against Real Betis on Jan. 4 but managed just 27 minutes across two appearances, 13 minutes in the Copa del Rey against Albacete and 14 minutes against Monaco in the Champions League.

That lack of involvement has led to eight games on the bench, including five straight in LaLiga. During that stretch, players such as Federico Valverde, Raúl Asencio, David Jiménez and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all filled in at right back, a situation that has caused some frustration within Carvajal’s camp.
