Real Madrid face another delay in their transfer push to sign Alvaro Carreras after the FIFA Club World Cup.
Xabi Alonso has hit pause on any transfer moves during the tournament as he looks to focus on winning a title in North America.
The former Spain international secured deals for Premier League duo Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold before flying out to the USA for a combined total of around £60m.
A move for Carreras is expected to form part of a new-look defensive unit under Alonso, with Trent at right back and Huijsen centrally, as Carreras comes in on the left-side.
Benfica’s decision to include Carreras in their tournament squad, caused some concern over the status of the transfer, but it was ultimately viewed as a power play from Lisbon.
Real Madrid previously hoped to complete a transfer for €40m, but reports from Marca indicated they will need to pay his full €50m release clause to secure an exit from Lisbon.
Club legend Rui Costa and head coach Bruno La teamed up to fire a message of no deal being done over the 22-year-old.
Neither wanted to discuss an exit during the Club World Cup and remained steadfast on what they would request to sanction a sale.
Benfica’s last 16 exit at the hands of Chelsea on June 28 will be key in Real Madrid’s drive for Carreras.
The roadblock of playing in the competition has been removed, but it changes little in terms of a timetable for his arrival in Madrid, as per Mundo Deportivo.
Like all players competing in the USA, Carreras will now head off on a summer break, as sanctioned by player unions ahead of the 2025/26 season.
That could push the final confirmation of his move to the Spanish capital to late July where he will join up for the final stages of preseason training in Valdebebas.

I always wish players like fran can be very good.... Their kinds would end up being like valverde, kross, modric, Van dik, Terry, Carlos and others.. Those players that are Without unnecessary drama and attitudes, they do their stuff with passion and all. I hope Fran can be that
Thanks for your input but u didnt get our opinion cos all u said is what we have already mentioned and I concluded that we give the Fran the benefit of the doubt under Alonso in the CWC first and evaluate him after the completion. Carreras unlike Fran has NOT been tested like Fran against quality teams. If Carreras comes, fine (cos I trust the process), if he doesn't, it isnt a loss.

I get both of your opinions. . But really, i don't think it will be entirely safe to stick with fran based on the 3 performances with teams that are mid. . The things I love about fran is his commitment, discipline, energy and attitude. Sometimes I pity him cos he's a loyal player. But then this is business. He looks like those players who would later be better at their latter part of their career. players like jesus navas, danilo and the likes . For now, he his mid. I believe he has potential but its safer to get someone to competite with him. . I also watch him at vallecano but then the pressure of madrid and vallecano are wide apart..he might still be affected by that. carreras is a more creative player and slightly better defensively. it's not bad having both of them. Mendy gat no legs again.

Anytime I read about Carreras n Benfica transfer delay tactics, I laugh. Fran Gracia may discover the form we saw when he was in Raya Vallecano n signed him and Alonso, Perez and the board may put a pause on the transfer.

You can't be perfect all time, There were some signing RealMadrid made in the past which eventually didn't work out the way they expected. Examples are Jesus Reinier, from Flamengo, Luca Jovic from Frankfurt, Danilo from Porto, Antonio Cassano from Roma, Water Samuel from Roma, Pedro Leon from Getafe and so on. Some players may show some convincing performances before signing them and later become underperforming at their new club so that's football for you. Don't forget that, Fran came from RealMadrid youth team before he was sold to Rayo Vallacano while RealMadrid retain 50% sell-on in the transaction after buy-back clause already included. RealMadrid and Perez felt Fran was performing for Rayo Vallacano while in the other side there was Miguel Gutierrez doing great with Girona, so the reason why Perez and the board went for Fran was that, they believed he could play a backup role and not as their main target for the left back position because at that time, the plan was to offload Mendy and bring in Alphonso Dalvies while Fran will play a backup role but now at this point Fran hasn't been able to convince the Bernabeu faithful. Don't be surprise he may be sold or they retain him to play a backup role. As for Mendy, he will eventually leave or it all depends on the new coach to decide. For sure, one will definitely leave between Fran and Mendy
Let's all watch and evaluate Fran in this CWC sir. I am not really convinced with the Benfica guy as he was picking up cards and couldn't control his emotions, eventually missed a game due to undiscipline. If Real Madrid management see something in him. I always respect their opinion. I thought u know the reason we signed Fran, please watch his performance against us and Barcelona the season we won the league ie 2 seasons ago. I still believe Alonso will unlock that Fran Gracia 😉 . ##halamadrid

Please why did Perez and Real Madrid sign him? Cos I know my club don't just sign players for fun or for the sake of it. So don't say Fran can't defend. I stand by my comment. Give detailed reason we sign him.

Bro, please don't go to that area. Fran Garcia doesn't have that quality to play that left back for RealMadrid, it is very obvious, that he can't defend also again whenever he move forward, he doesn't link very well with the attacker. The player Perez would have Activated his buy back clause was Miguel Gutierrez but he instead went for Fran Garcia. RealMadrid are looking for a left back who can defend most especially also a player that can attack even score goals like we've seen in Roberto Carlos, Marcelo and so on.
