Real Madrid's best start in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era

Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid in 2018, Los Blancos have not enjoyed the same success they did as when he was in their dressing room.

However, five games into the 2021/22 season under returning head coach Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid are in full force after picking up four wins and one draw in all competitions.

Real Madrid haven't enjoyed a start to a season this prosperous since 2017/18, the last campaign that Cristiano Ronaldo spent at the club.

The Cristiano Ronaldo era marked a time when Real Madrid were the biggest threat in the Champions League, as well as a consistent threat in LaLiga Santander.

Between the 2013/14 and 2017/18 seasons, Real Madrid won the Champions League four times out of a possible five, but since then they haven't even reached the final once, with two all-English finals in the last three years.

Although their tremendous start to the season is not a guarantee of trophies to come, it is a great foundation for the upcoming year.

European elite

With this start to the season, Real Madrid currently boast one of the best records in Europe.

Bayern Munich are the best, having managed six wins and one draw in seven games with a total of 31 goals scored.

Paris Saint-Germain have five wins and one draw from six matches, while Chelsea are on four wins and two draws.

More goals

Ancelotti's Real Madrid of 2021 also boast more goals than any of Los Blancos' teams from the last few years, having scored 14 goals in five games.

This amounts to an average of 2.8 goals per game for the Spanish giants. To beat that statistic, you have to go back to the 2016/17 season, when they averaged three goals per game.
